The following teams moved to Round 2 on January 11, 2021.

200 Urban Garden

We envision a multifunctional garden. We aim to develop a recipe for turning under-utilized land into vivacious green spaces, with the ultimate goal of having a decentralized network of urban gardens that foster positive growth throughout the city.


Algo

A Carbon-Neutral Energy Source using Microalgae Biofilm:
Our multifaceted proposal involves a microbial fuel cell component for conversion of the algae biomass to electrical energy. As such, the device would not re-emit any more CO2 than it absorbed in the first place, thus, making it a compelling source of renewable carbon-neutral energy.

 

Community Health Collective

An online platform for student-led innovation hubs across Canada, youth interested in undertaking community health projects, and community organizations to collaborate and share resources.

Dendrite

'Dendrite' will be a platform for non-profits providing different services, e.g. food, mental health, housing, etc. to connect, share, and collaborate - for the benefit of the clients they serve.

Future Feasts

The goal of Future Feasts is to build a non-profit organization focused on educating various stakeholders such as the public, investors, and governments about new and upcoming sustainable foods & food practices.

Just Imagine: A City of Green

This initiative takes advantage of the ample overlooked rooftops in the city to create new green spaces that will contribute to air filtration, lowering the urban heat island and raising environmental. The first step towards a larger goal involving retrofitting all suitable McGill building with green roofs.

McGill Food Analytics Centre

McGill Food Analytics Centre aims to address food insecurity within the community by providing technological solutions to non-profit food organizations. IT infrastructure to match the right volunteers with the right organizations at the right time.

 

McGill Mycelium Project

An indoor mushroom farm that converts agricultural waste from Mac Campus and cardboard waste from Downtown Campus into nutritional mushrooms that can be served at McGill Cafeterias.

 

Mental Health Task Force

Democratizing Access to Mental Health Resources
App delivers medically-verified, bite-size lessons in a gamefied format that teach friends and family of individuals with mental health or behavioural issues the skills necessary for identifying and/or de-escalating problems that arise during the often unavoidable waiting period for professional service intervention.

 

Mini-Waste

We propose Food Map, an interactive and intuitive platform to facilitate the connection between food donors and people in need, to improve the efficiency of the food donation process

 

Ora-3D

At Ora-3D, we are empowering the future of everyday oral care with a re-invented toothbrush that is better aligned to dental recommendations, mass accessible and low-cost to everyday dental care. Patent pending reinvented battery free toothbrush that simulate the right brushing technique, deep reach in-between teeth, clean along gumline, to offer a 3D clean.

 

RecyclePal

Bringing clear recycling information straight to the user through an easy barcode-scanning app to reduce the sorting needs and contamination in the Quebec recycling process. RecyclePal is an interactive app which allows user to track their consumption and the composition on their waste.

 

SciCon

SciCon is a virtual platform for research crowdfunding and tailored knowledge transfer to the public. Creating a more sustained, open, and attractive research environment through a direct connection between societies and scientists.



Sci-Lit Initiative

We are interested in developing a program that seeks to improve scientific literacy in underfunded high schools and economically disadvantaged communities. Using a series of workshops, lectures, and continuously provided online resources and learning opportunities (e.g. educational videos, articles, etc.) we would like to help support a more balanced understanding of science.

 

Stocate

Stocate offers an online platform to help shoppers explore the LBs in their neighbourhood, making it easier for shoppers to buy locally and sustainably.

 

The Sustainable Cooling Team

Provide access to sustainable cooling alternatives for mobile clinics by targeting temporary IDP sites in Dori (Sahel region, Burkina Faso). Our team focuses on using a cost-effective solar-powered solution that would be easy to manage.

 

Sustainability Learning Space

Developing an online learning hub (“ecosystem”) to highlight creative, innovative approaches to learning, including: 1) A digital archive of videos and resources showcasing alternative learning practices and mapping the network of those spaces 2) A virtual learning space for synchronous learning to share and nurture innovative learning models and pedagogies.

  

UAEM McGill

We're an interdisciplinary group interested in positioning McGill to lead the movement for clinical trials transparency in Canada, recognizing that open science is the future of equitable healthcare. The creation of a task force and the creation of a website documenting our process, celebrating leaders, and curating evidence.

 

unEarth

Developing an interactive educational platform called unEarth to illustrate the concept of ecological connectivity to users from ages 9 to 15.

 

Water Purifying Backpack (WPB)

The WPB is a water transportation and purification system harnessing solar energy and biomechanical energy to provide clean and safe water distribution in developing communities.
